Someone on Facebook started this conversation. I generally don’t like these discussions as they tend to fracture fandom and start pissing contests, but if one person sees my point and speaks up that they too love something from both eras, it’ll make me a happy camper =D
They are/were both right. They both brought strengths to the show and have their weaknesses, but then every show runner will. I enjoyed RTD’s era for the angst and passion and brilliance he coaxed out of David Tennant’s performances and I love Moffatt for the fairy tale of Amelia Pond and the brilliance and poignancy of the Doctor with his Idris.
And TOGETHER they both brought us Blink and the tear-jerking reunion of his Doctor and Peter Davison’s in Time Crash, solidifying the link between Classic and New Who in the minds of many fans I have talked to – Davison even highlighted this bridging in his time on stage at Gallifrey this year.
I WILL NOT takes sides. This is a not pissing contest as to who’s Who is better. Finding joy and enjoyment in both eras means the fans win and that makes it so worth watching in the end.
