MLP Behind the Scenes: Tina Gou

Posted on August 31, 2015 by afolhusband Posted in Horsing around with My Little Pony, TimeSiren's Time Rants Leave a comment

Equestria Daily recently put up four short videos of celloist Tina Guo recording a track for the 100th episode of My Little Pony.  Here is one of them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf2LxvkPTOI

MLP has a wealth of talent, from the writers to the voice actors and singers.  Those are the easy ones to spot, but sometimes it’s easy to miss the talent that goes into making the music tracks, from composer Danny Ingram to musicians like Ms. Guo.  If you dig a little deeper into her Facebook page or YouTube channel, however, you’ll see exactly what kind of talent this show has to offer:

At the end of the video, she plays various genres from classical to heavy metal.  Heavy metal cello, you say?  Take a look:

Wow!  Does Vinyl Scratch know about this?  Maybe BonBon isn’t the only one with a secret identity.

Countdown to Friendship Games: Short #5

Posted on August 30, 2015 by afolhusband Posted in Horsing around with My Little Pony, TimeSiren's Time Rants Leave a comment

A new season, a new movie…it’s a banner year for Ponydome. Here is this week’s short starring Flash Sentry!

Saturday, August 29th, Discover Family aired a preview to Friendship Games.  It contained the first four shorts and about ten minutes of the movie.  It was big news early in season 5, when Rainbow Dash got her first solo song in “Tanks for the Memories,” but until now, nopony seemed to know that she gets a solo in this movie as well.  She even strangely ponys out without her guitar, which ties in with Sunset Shimmer trying to figure out how magic works in the EqG universe in the short, “The Science of Magic.”

On another musical note, I recently found this PMV on YouTube.  It’s the perfect followup to last week’s short, “Photo Finished.” Keep in mind that this is a fan made video!

Still wish the movie was going to be in theaters.  Enough! I go!

More Pony Besties, Please!

Recently, Hasbro announced the release of five sets of ponies based on best friends in entertainment history.

MLP Bumblebee & Optimus Prime at Second Geekhood

Personally, I need Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee, and Lavern and Shirley.  Hopefully, Hasbro will release more BFF pony pairs for next year’s Friendship Day. If they do, here are my suggestions:

Kirk and Spock:  “You are, and shall always be, my friend.”

Xena and Gabrielle:  Have you ever noticed how similar Sunset Shimmer’s path is to Xena’s?

Image result for gilligan's island

The Skipper and Gilligan:  Probably as close to sea ponies as we’ll ever get.

Fred and Barney:  Talk about “Friendship Through the Ages!”

Mr. Ed and Wilbur:  Now this has possibilities.  They could do Mr. Ed as a pony and Wilbur as an Equestrian guy, or they could mix it up and make Mr. Ed an Equestrian guy and Wilbur as a pony.  I guess it depends on which side of the mirror you’re on.  Boggles the mind, don’t it?

Have any other BFF suggestions?  Leave them in the comments.

Countdown to Friendship Games: Short #4

Posted on August 24, 2015 by afolhusband Posted in Horsing around with My Little Pony Leave a comment

Another Saturday before the premier of “Friendship Games” has brought us another EqG short.  Enough, I go!

This is the last of the four shorts that the Spanish Hasbro YouTube Channel leaked ahead of time, so next week’s will be a total surprise.  We still haven’t had a PMV (Pony Music Video) yet.  I’m hoping that we’ll get at least two like we did before “Rainbow Rocks.”

It’s nice to see some of the background ponies, or in this case, girls, get some love!  Photo Finish even has an Equestria Girls doll out, as well as a brushable pony version. It comes in a box, not a bubble pack like the other ponies.

Now, I collect the Funko ponies, the blind packs, even the McDonald’s ponies. However, I don’t collect the main Hasbro line of the brushables.  Why? Because most of them look bald!  Check out any of the unicorns like Rarity or Twilight: their mane doesn’t start until behind their horn.  You can almost get away with it with Rarity, but when have you ever seen Twilight without her bangs?  I guess Hasbro can’t be bothered to put hair in front of her horn.  Photo Finish has bangs, but she doesn’t have a horn to work around.  So, I guess a background pony (no offense, Ms. Finish) can have her bangs, but one of the Mane Six can’t?  This is part of a large controversy in the Brony community about show accurate toys.

And while I’m on the subject, you can never find an Apple Jack, pony or girl, with her cowgirl hat!  When have you ever seen AJ without her hat?  I’ll tell you when:  as often as you see Twilight without her bangs!  Why don’t we just forget that Fluttershy has wings, then?  Rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant still wish the movie was going to be in theaters rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant…
