Nerdy Stuff | Taylor Swift – Shake It Off Parody

Posted on July 2, 2015 by TimeSiren Posted in YouTube Geek video of the week Leave a comment

Thanks to the AFOL Husband for finding this!

LYRICS:

VERSE 1:
I stay up all night
Playing way too many games
That’s what my friends say, mmm-mmm
That’s what my friends say, mmm-mmm
Although comic books are great [chuckle]
I need to take a break
That’s what my friends say, mmm-mmm
That’s what my friends say, mmm-mmm

BRIDGE:
But I keep geeking
out — I keep collecting
Toys, anime, comics
On my mind
Got to catch up on all those shows!

CHORUS:
‘Cause cosplayers gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the gamers gonna game, game, game, game, game
Baby, I’m just gonna geek, geek, geek, geek out
This nerdy stuff, nerdy stuff!
Binge watching shows all day, day, day, day, day
Sci-fi movies on re-play, play, play, play, play
Baby, I’m just gonna geek, geek, geek, geek out
This nerdy stuff, nerdy stuff!

VERSE 2:
Some people call me weird
That’s how I’m engineered
And that’s what they don’t see, mmm-mmm
That’s what they don’t see, mmm-mmm
I’m like a kid but grown (like a kid but grown)
I love the cons, I always go (cons, I always go)
And that’s what they don’t know, mmm-mmm
That’s what they don’t know, mmm-mmm

[BRIDGE]

[CHORUS]

HOOK:
Nerdy stuff, Nerdy stuff,
All-this-awesome nerdy stuff, nerdy stuff,
All-this-awesome nerdy stuff, nerdy stuff,
All-this-awesome nerdy stuff, nerdy stuff.

RAP:
Hey, hey, hey!

Just think while ya’ll been walking around, thinking you’re too cool to play
Magic Cards or Pokemon with us, you could’ve been geeking out with all my peeps.

Iron Man and a… Oh! What’s that?
I’m like “Oh, my god!” I’m just geeking out!
And that lady over there with the colorful hair
Won’t you come and join us honey? We can geek the hell out.

[CHORUS]

[HOOK x3]

Geek Cred: What Is It, And How Do You Get It?

Posted on May 26, 2015 by madwomanwithabox Posted in Diary Of A Mad Woman, Our Opinions And We're Sticking To 'Em! 1 Comment

Geek Pride at Second GeekhoodHow many episodes of MY LITTLE PONY are on your DVR? Where were you when THOR 2: THE DARK WORLD premiered? How many video games, sonic screwdrivers, or original props from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION do you own? In a world where ‘geek is chic,’ the debate never ends when it comes to proving your mettle as a true geek or nerd. It even extends to more serious subjects such as feminism, where the accusation of being a ‘fake geek girl’ has become a gatekeeping insult from male geeks to females of the species.

Gender equality, however, is not what I’m discussing here today. I’m speaking to the people out there that are geeks after my own heart. I’m talking to the MCU fans that have never picked up a comic book. I’m talking to the STAR TREK nerds that are just discovering the original series thanks to the thrilling scripts and epic lens flares of JJ Abrams. I’m here to talk to the gamers who, like me, are playing DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS for the first time and helplessly romancing Alistair for the 19th time while the rest of the geek world has devolved into a DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION-inspired Cullenmancing trash party.

To the neophytes of the geek world, little fishes standing in awe of those who have seen STAR WARS a hundred and twenty nine times, who gawk at the sages that own an actual Vulcan lute, who dream of being as geeky as the folks that have been given fashion advice by Catwoman herself, Julie Newmar, I say to you: there is a way to earn your stripes. In a world full of those who were there when fandom life began, long before the advent of Tumblr and AO3, there is a way to find your place among the big shots.

Seven words is all it takes…say them with me…

“I’m a geek…and proud of it!”

BGeek Cred - All it takes is pride! (courtesy of starburstmagazine.com)eing a nerd may be cool these days, but none of us are in it to be cool…that’s the point of being a geek! We capslock in forums and squeal in the presence of friends because we all have one thing in common: we are giant, hopeless, vibrating masses of bone, tissue, and passion. We love what we love because there are geniuses among us with ideas so vibrant and gorgeous and just plain crazy that we can’t help but be enchanted! They thrill us, amuse us, and when we’re very lucky, they inspire us to go out and do something just as vibrant, just as gorgeous…and probably just as plain crazy.

The proof? It’s not just in this story, it’s in the very existence of this website! Every example here is based on a real person. The “Cullenmancing trash party?” That would be my best friend, whom you can find on Tumblr under that very username. The legend with Star Trek props and a Vulcan lute? That would be Krypton Radio founder, Gene Turnbow.

And the woman who saw STAR WARS a hundred and twenty nine times? Well, she’s the reason for the season–I mean, the website. Now in the happy throes of her Second Geekhood, if you listen very closely, you can just about hear the sounds of a TimeSiren arming her light saber and squeeing at the words that now have every fan’s heart going pitter-pat: “Chewie? We’re home.”

They’re all geeks, every last one of them, and that’s just three of the people I have described in this article…but it’s not the video game hours, or the movie viewings or the props that make them what they are. Once upon a time, they were all the same as me, just getting their footing as they entered their first geekhood. They hadn’t done anything cool, or acquired any precious relics back then. They began life as geeks with those same seven words, and that is what made them what they are.

So, as I publish my first story on this site? I’m going to make my own Second Geekhood official by showing off a little of my geek cred.

I’m a geek, and proud of it!

Do Old Geeks Dream?

Posted on May 17, 2015 by TimeSiren Posted in TimeSiren's Time Rants Leave a comment

They sure as hell do. I’m a 52-year old geek and my geekness has not diminished with age. It is as strong as the first day I saw an original run Star Trek episode when I was 6 years old. You do the math as to what year I was born from that – it’s late and I’m too tired. Today was a big day. The day we did our first serious photo and video shoot for the opening credits for Second Geekhood. I am ignoring the pain of a pulled muscle in my abdomen and the bed, heating pad and tylenol that await because I am too excited about what we did today and I don’t want to lose a treasured memory or second of it ’cause I can’t remember or get too busy in the morning to commit to history what we did here tonight.

Yes, old geeks dream and that’s what keeps them young – the same thing that has me clicking away at the keyboard long after my cohorts Madwoman and AFOL Husband went to sleep. The excitement of it all. The fact that this year is another banner year for science fiction and fantasy in all the media we are swimming in these days…t.v., internet, smartphones and the silver screen. Especially this year for me because the long-awaited new genesis of Star Wars is J.J. Abrams gift to the world. I may have entered this world of the popular arts at 6 years old and made my first costume when I was 10 (yes, 10!), but my Inner Geek didn’t come exploding out until the later age of 14 when Star Wars changed EVERYTHING.

Think about that a moment. Thirty-seven years later I will still get that butterflies-in-the-stomach as John Williams music floods my ears and the beloved opening crawl of words fills my eyes with its magic. If you are a geek, you will understand how we can still be in love with the thing that touched us most in our teenage years. If you’re not a geek, think back to how you loved the music of that era, or the clothing, or the food, or how you felt so invincible as a teen. Nothing, but NOTHING takes away such special, touching memories.

And nothing but NOTHING will take the magic of Star Wars away from me, as a geek. Not the worst of the worst sequels that came after, or the bad merchandising or the terrible scripts, because in the end, it isn’t about ANY of that.

It’s about the magic. It’s for the magic it stirred in my heart that I dedicated this website and it’s love of fandom to. With all my Geeky heart!

May its Force be with You.
